Katharine Timoney is a jazz and soul singer-songwriter from Northern Ireland. Her music combines elements of vocal jazz and retro soul drawing inspiration from powerhouse voices such as Nina Simone and Aretha Franklin. In 2023, the title track of her EP 'Life Came into Colour' won The UK Songwriting Contest (Jazz category) following significant radio support from JazzFM UK and Spotify who included it in their playlist, 'Best Vocal Jazz of 2022'. This year, Katharine performed at Cheltenham Jazz Festival and her new single 'All This Time is out this month, October 24th!
Katharine's upcoming record produced by British saxophonist Ben Castle (Jamie Cullum, Gregory Porter) features pianist Mark Edwards, drummer Darren Beckett and bassist Arnie Somogyi. In 2022, Timoney's EP 'Life Came into Colour' quickly gained significant play from JazzFM with 'Track of The Week' spots from DJs' Nigel Williams, Yolanda Brown and China Moses as well as a four week stint on the station's A-List with lead single 'Don't Fret'. In addition, she gained Spotify editorial support from playlists 'Cosy Jazz' and 'Fresh Finds Jazz'. Katharine began working with producer Ben Castle in 2019 after receiving the BBC NI Platform Award. As part of the award, she performed with The Ulster Orchestra at a special winners concert in The Ulster Hall as well as BBC Proms in Your Garden in 2020 and most recently for the 100th anniversary concert of BBC Northern Ireland presented by Christine Lampard.
